Pablo Sandoval shines as San Francisco Giants defeat San Diego Padres 7-2 - MLB Update
Pablo Sandoval had an outstanding day with the bat as he launched two home-runs in the San Francisco Giants’ 7-2 win over the San Diego Padres in the first outing of the three-game series at Petco Park in San Diego on Monday, September 5.
Sandoval led the game off with his 442-feet long one-run homer against the Padres’ starter Tim Stauffer to provide a strong start to his club. 25-year-old right-hand batter then came into action in the fourth inning with the same kind of shot for his second
home-run of the game. It was his 18th home-run along with 55 RBIs and 46 runs in 97 games of 2011 regular season.
Madison Bumgarner maintained his best pitching throughout the game. He struck-out 13 batters in just over eight innings, allowing two runs on seven hits and walking only one batter to get his tenth win of the season.
"I'm proud of how the guys bounced back," Bochy said. "They played so well today. I mean, that's as tough a loss as we've had all year. We played one of our better games. We did a great job of putting that game behind us."
The left-hand pitcher allowed an RBI single in the first inning and then held the opposition under great pressure. He was pulled off in the ninth inning after Nick Hundley launched a solo homer.
Giants made their second run in the second and then added two more runs in the fourth inning before moving to the eighth where they finalised their scored 7-1. Brandon Crawford scored two RBIs, one each in the second and the fourth inning. Cody Ross and
Mark DeRose each scored an RBI single.
"What a job he did," Bochy said. "I said, 'I'm going to let him start the ninth, give him a chance, get a shot at it.' He had a couple deep counts and the home run. I wasn't going to let him work that hard to get the complete game."
Stauffer allowed four runs on seven hits and walked one batter over six innings and lost his 12th outing of the season. Relief pitcher Jeff Fulchino gave away three runs on two hits and walked two batters in less than a full inning.
