Pablo Sandoval sparks as San Francisco Giants defeat Colorado Rockies 8-5 - MLB Update
San Francisco Giants’ third baseman, Pablo Sandoval had an outstanding day with the bat as he went 4-for-4 with an average of .308 and struck a grand slam in the Giants’ 8-5 victory against the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field, Colorado on September 15.
Giants’ started their first inning with style as they got a 2-0 lead when Sandoval hit a two-run homer (429 feet) towards right-field and Carlos Beltran posted the second run. In the second inning, Giants’ batters smashed three runs to advance their lead
5-0. Cody Ross hit a grounder into fielder’s choice to short-stop position and Brandon Crawford added a single run on the throwing error of Rockies’ short-stop Thomas Field.
Field committed continuous errors as Ryan Vogelsong was saved to reach at third base on Field’ throwing error. The second run was taken by Vogelsong when Jeff Keppinger hit a sacrifice fly to centre-field. Ross added the third run during the second inning
when Beltran reached at first base on the error of Rockies’ first baseman Jordan Pacheco.
In the third inning, Rockies posted their initial run to reduce their lead 5-1. Jhoulys Chacin scored one run when Mark Ellis hit a single-run shot towards left-field and Dexter Fowler advanced to second base to end the third inning. Rockies further cut
their deficit 5-2 during the fourth inning by adding a single run.
Pacheco hit a solo homer (441 feet) towards left-centre to give the Rockies a solid potential. Vogelsong threw just over five innings with an ERA of just 2.68 and struck-out eight batters. He surrendered four hits, two runs, four walks and two earned runs
on his 104 pitches. In the sixth inning, Giants raised their lead 7-2 when Vogelsong scored his second run on the drive of Ross towards deep centre-field.
Beltran hit a grounder into double play and Ross scored one run. Rockies smashed three runs at the bottom of the seventh inning and reduced their lead 7-5. Chris Iannetta homered (380 feet) to right-field and Field scored a single run when Chris Nelson doubled
to deep right-centre. The second or last run for Rockies was taken by Nelson.
During the ninth inning, Brandon Belt homered (406 feet) towards left-centre to give the Giants an 8-5 lead. However, the Giants led off the four-game series 1-0 against the Rockies at Colorado.
