Pablo Sandoval’s homer helps San Francisco Giants defeat Arizona Diamondbacks 5-2 – MLB Update
Pablo Sandoval put in a brilliant performance as he hit a three run homer to guide San Francisco Giants over the Arizona Diamondbacks 5-2 at Chase Field, Phoenix on Friday, April 15.
Matt Cain also had an amazing performance as in the duration of six innings he allowed four hits which accumulated to a single run along with two batters. Cain has slowly but steadily emerged as a top class pitcher and lately he has been proving himself
to be one of the best in all of National League, which is saying something since we have the likes of Cliff Lee and Roy Halladay in the National League. Cain threw six scoreless innings and then finished off the night by giving a double to Stephen Drew and
Melvin Mora.
In the Giants much heated run towards the World Series title, he helped the team immensely by throwing a staggering 21 and one-third innings without giving up an earned run.
The manager for the Diamondbacks could not agree with how good Cain was. He believed that one of the factors that made him lethal was his unpredictability, continuing he said, "He knows he can pitch and he knows he is good. He comes right at you with good
stuff. We aren't the only guys he has beat up on."
Sandoval secured the fifth spot on the batting order, as he hit his third home run of the year against Daniel Hudson in the very first innings. He also scored off Miguel Tejada’s two doubles.
Hudson had a career high 10 strike-outs but his performance was not flawless as he gave up five runs out of which four were earned in the duration of six hits. He also allowed three walks, and all this within six innings.
With one player already out in the first inning, Freddy Sanchez hit a single against Melvin Mora and Buster Posey joined by hitting a single so Sandoval could be brought up. He hit his towering home-run that put the Giants at 3-0. Brandon Belt singled and
Tejeda doubled down. Cain managed to give up two singles to Justin Upton. They Giants got an unearned run in the fifth inning to secure their 5-2 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks.
It will be interesting to see how the Giants carry their winning momentum forward into their next match-up. The Diamondbacks put in a decent performance, but it was not enough to contain the Giants’ offence.
