Pablo Sarmiento: Sergio Gabriel Martinez is fit and ready to take on Matthew Macklin - Boxing news
Pablo Sarmiento, the man who supervises the Argentinean Sergio Gabriel Martinez’s sparring, is confident and optimistic of his man’s convincing win over Matthew Macklin. In a recent interview, Pablo said that Sergio has completed the training session and
is extremely fit to defend his titles against the Briton.
The Sergio-Pablo duo has been undergoing strenuous training sessions to get ready for the March 17, 2012 skirmish. Sergio is scheduled to defend his The Ring and WBC Diamond middleweight titles in a 12-round bout against Matthew Macklin. The ring for the
epic bout will be set up at Madison Square Garden arena situated in New York.
Both men will headline the “The Real Middleweight Championship” pay-per-view which will be televised on HBO’s ‘World Championship Boxing’ Saturday night show. The whole event is promoted by Lou Dibella of Dibella Entertainment. Sergio, 37, is currently the
number one pound-for-pound pugilist in middleweight division.
Well known as the “Maravilla” (Wonder), Sergio has been in a total 52 bouts and came out victorious in 48. He has lost just two bouts to Paul Williams and Antonio Margarito. Gabriel is considered as one of the best pugilists in the world because of his impressive
pugilism, resilience, and ring performance.
Sergio has collected 27 of his wins by knockout and has almost nailed every big name in the division. His Saturday night opponent, Matthew Macklin, is Britain’s number one middleweight and ranks eleventh in the world rankings. Macklin, infamous as ‘Mack
the Knife’, has been in a total 31 bouts and came out victorious in 28. He has grasped 19 of his wins by knockout.
Macklin is coming from a split decision loss to Felix Sturm and is clearly overshadowed by Sergio in various facets. Sergio is a southpaw and Matthew has an orthodox stance. The Argentinean pounder has large reach coverage as compared to the British Macklin.
Moreover the most significant aspect Matthew lacks is experience.
The bout even now is being awarded by most critics to Sergio. Pablo Sarmiento expressed his feelings while keeping in mind all above aspects said, “Sergio is ready for Macklin, he trained extremely hard for this fight, just like he does for any other fight
and he’s in great shape. He’s at 163 right now and he feels very strong, training camp, everything was great.”
Macklin will try to give substantial tough time to the middleweight kingpin but he must be ready since Sergio has followed a rigorous training schedule to defend his titles and might startle him by his raw powered jabs.
