Pablo Urtasun wins the seventh stage of the Tour of Britain 2012
Pablo Urtasun of Team Euskaltel-Euskadi opened his 2012 winning account after winning the seventh stage of the Tour of Britain.
The cyclist crossed the finish-line in a quickest time of 4 hours, 20 minutes and 31 seconds and occupied the top podium spot.
Marc De Maar of Team UnitedHealthcare Pro Cycling achieved the second position with Ivan Basso of Team Liquigas-Cannondale, Samuel Sanchez of Team Euskaltel-Euskadi and Leopold Koenig of Team NetApp securing the third, fourth and the fifth positions in the
respective order.
"We spoke about halfway through the race that Sanchez would do everything possible to get a victory for me,” stage winner Urtasun noted after crossing the finish-line.
"I came here with the intention of trying to win a stage. On the first day, when I got all those (KoM) points I wasn't really aiming for it”.
“It is much more important to win a stage. When I went over today in first position [at the KOM] I wasn't really sprinting for it as Kristian [House] has got enough points and tomorrow I think my legs will be too tired to keep fighting for it’.
David Le Lay of Team Saur-Sojasun wins the 22.6 km opening mountain of the race while Pablo Urtasun of Team Euskaltel-Euskadi succeeded at the 90.2 km and 104.9 km claimed the second and the third climbs of the event.
Leigh Howard of Team Orica-GreenEdge claimed the first sprint of the race while Marcin Bialoblocki of Team Node4-Giordana securing the second and the third sprints of the event.
Samuel Sanchez of Team Euskaltel-Euskadi received the most combative rider award after his heroic performance at the race.
Jonathan Tiernan-Locke of Team Endura Racing is leading the stage 7 classifications with a healthy margin of 18 seconds over Nathan Haas of Team Garmin-Sharp.
Damiano Caruso of Team Liquigas-Cannondale, Leigh Howard of Team Orica-GreenEdge and Christopher Jones of Team UnitedHealthcare achieving the next three positions in the respective order.
Team Saur Sojasun is holding the top overall position after the stage 7 team’s classifications with a lead of 2 minute and 45 seconds over Team UnitedHealthcare Pro Cycling at the second spot.
