Sporting Lisbon coach Domingos Paciencia will not hold his usual pre-match press conference before the crunch game against Maritimo according to reports.
The tactician joined Estadio Jose Alvalade last summer and immediately began a wave of spending spree that was quite unheard of in the Primeira Liga. Adding nearly 19 new players in his squad, he changed the complexion of the team and many expected them
to fight for the Primeira Liga title this term.
However reality has been quite different as the club have struggled to maintain their form during the whole campaign. Initially the Lions demonstrated great attacking football and were firing on all cylinders but with the waning form of Dutch hit man Ricky
van Wolfswinkel, their decisiveness up-front has diminished.
Currently languishing on 4th place, the Lisbon giants are on the last UEFA Europa League spot and are closely being followed by Maritimo, who look rejuvenated despite the departure of influential striker http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Baba-Diawara-c7137.
Sporting are five points behind 3rd placed http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/SC-Braga-c40460 and take on Maritimo away from home on the 12th of February.
Domingos Paciencia usually holds a pre-match conference before the game and reveals the extent of injuries, players that might play and his general comments on the upcoming match.
However last week he chose to cancel the meeting before the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Nacional-c39984 tie and according to reports, he is set to do the same when his side take on the Minnows at Estádio dos Barreiros.
The trainer revealed the reason behind this was that because he is due to face the volatile presses every other day as the fixtures were condense and so he had chosen to skip some the conferences and utilized his precious time in other activities.
With the coach set to miss today’s meeting, he will have to wait until the UEFA Europa League tie with Legia Warsaw comes around if he wants to address the press.
Although it remains to be seen what sort of impact this has on the team, it is certain that it will limit their exposure to the public and help keep the players out of the spot light.
The Sportinguistas take on Maritimo on the weekend and will be hoping to keep their momentum alive with three points.
