Pacific Rim takes authoritative victory in Abu Dhabi Prix de Malleret – Horseracing News
Pacific Rim stamped authority in the Abu Dhabi Prix de Malleret (Group 2), winning the event with ease.
The three-year-old filly started off her career on a negative note, finishing fourth overall. However, she has lifted her performance since then and her rivals have not found it easy to compete against her.
Although the young challenger was not rated as the favourite to succeed in the Abu Dhabi Prix de Malleret, she did not seem to be under any pressure at all. The conditions were quite challenging for her, but she was in control
right from the start until the end. She took the lead pretty early and no one else managed to come close to her after that, as she succeeded by two and a half lengths.
The winning trainer Mikel Delzangles said about his filly, “The race was made to measure for her, she settled in behind the leader which is the right place when they don't go too fast. She did it well but then she was only repeating
what she did last time. We'll have to see how she recovers but normally she would be aimed at the Prix Vermeille.”
The Lark was another strong contender for victory and she looked solid for most part of the race until something went terribly wrong for her, which forced her to settle for fifth place in the end. She was priced 5 to 2 by the bookies
and the punters had shown interest in risking money on her.
Looking at her performance, trainer Michael Bell stated, “They crawled and she was stuck in a pocket. Staying is the name of the game with her and a slow pace combined with where she got shuffled back to meant the die was cast.
I don't know what they're calling the going but it's not soft.”
There had been some rain around the track, which changed the conditions to some extent. However, the weather did not make a huge difference and all of the participants got a fair chance to display their speed.
It appears that The Lark’s camp would have fancied their chances more on a soft ground, which is why Bell was unhappy about what the organisers had declared.
