Pacific men’s volleyball team loses to Cardinals by 3-1 on Saturday
The Cardinals had a match on Saturday in which they competed against the Pacific men’s volleyball team.
Despite the fact that the Cardinals had already secured themselves the number three ranked position in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation tournament, they did not relax while they played their recent match. In fact, the Cardinals put up such a performance
that was able to thrill the spectators.
With their recent win, the Cardinals now have over all season wins that show a figure of 19. In contrast to this, the number of times that the Cardinals have been dealt out defeats total to be eight. The MPSF record of the Cardinals also shows statistics
to be proud of. They have been able to bag themselves 15 victories in MPSF. The number of times that the Cardinals have lost matches tally to be seven.
The first set of the match started off with both the teams going in for the kill. For most part of the match, both the teams were neck to neck with each other with no one sure where the tables would turn.
However, Stanford’s attacking side was on its best and they kept the pressure on the Pacific by hammering down relentless kills on their opponents. The players that stood prominent in the offensive made by the Cardinals during the first set of the match
were Spencer McLachlin and Evan Barry.
The second set of the match saw the Pacific step up their game a notch and make it hard for the Cardinals to gain dominance at the court. Pacific was able to take the lead for themselves early on.
Once they had the lead, they made the Cardinals trial after them as Pacific was able to extend their advantage to 19-14. Stanford did not let this lead shake their confidence and kept pushing up their score on the scoreboard until they were able to close
in the gap at 21-20. What followed next was intense competition as both the teams were headed towards a win. However, Pacific was the one that remained successful in bagging the second set of the game.
The third set of the match saw the Cardinals rejuvenated and determined to make a win. They were able to come out strong both interns of attack as well as the defence. It became hard for Pacific to score points in face of such strong opposition. Consequently,
the Cardinals were able to earn themselves the third set of the game.
After bagging the third, the fourth one came easy for the Cardinals as they were going strong on their already built momentum. The Cardinals sealed the deal by winning the fourth set of the game at 25-16.
“It’s all about rhythm,” said Stanford head coach John Kosty. “Tonight was the start of our tournament push.”
