Pack of Coyotes not leaving my house??

Why would a pack of 4 coyotes be around my house every night? I live in the country with a machine shed beside my house. They are usually close to my front porch, in the mornings I see them coming out of the shed, they are sometimes out during the day? What do I do to scare them away? So far honking and yelling at them has not worked. Are they sick? Usually they are a night animal and don't come out much during the day. They scare me going in my house at night!

  1. Call animal control and report this a pack living that close to your house is a danger to people and animals

  2. Sounds like they've denned up in your shed.  Do you have pets that go outside or livestock?  Outdoor cats are an easy meal for a coyote family.

I would be very concerned that they are not frightened by you.  Typically, they are very secretive, but by not showing much fear, they are socialized to humans enough to stay around.

There is also the possibility that they are "coy dogs".  Sometimes, coyotes crossbreed with a domestic dog.  The resulting offspring is neither domestic nor wild, and can be dangerous, as they lack most of the fear of humans.

Keep trash cans secure and don't allow pets outside unsupervised to prevent the coyotes from getting an easy food source.  Usually, human activity and loud noise is enough to drive them off.  However, you may need to consider a professional trapper to have them removed.  Also, you can try motion-activiated sprinklers and installing some motion detector lights around your house.  The motion-activated sprinklers can be placed close to the shed and will blast them with water any time they are triggered, which may help encourage them to move out.  Also, the motion detector lights would help prevent you from being surprised by a pack of coyotes in the dark.

Edit:  Animal control won't typically deal with any wildlife.
