Packers' LB Erik Walden released from police custody – NFL News
Green Bay Packers linebacker Erik Walden who was arrested this weekend on charges of domestic assault was released from jail on Monday following his signing a $ 1000 surety bond.
As courts were closed over the weekend due to Thanksgiving Day Holidays the linebacker spent two days in jail. Walden was arrested on Friday after his girlfriend reported to Police that she had been hit by Walden following a heated
argument.
Investigations into the incident are still continuing although no charges have been filed. His girlfriend’s changing stories about the incident will require more investigation before any further action can be taken. His girlfriend
first reported that the linebacker had hit her hard but later changed the story saying that she had initiated the contact by slapping him resulting in Walden pushing her.
"What we have here are conflicting stories and some assumptions," he said. "We just have to flush everything out to make sure we arrive at the truth. That will really dictate what, if any, action is done by our office."
"We want to get things right and clearly here when people are watching to see what happens we are going to do the normal protocol and analysis and what that means is to follow-up and determining as best we can what happened and
what can we prove," County District Attorney John Zakowski said.
The incident took place around 2:30 am on Friday morning in Walden’s apartment that he shares with his girlfriend. It is alleged that he hit her resulting in injuries to her hand and face. She filed the report after getting treatment
and Police arrested the 26-year-old at 8:00 am.
Green Bay Packers are still refusing to comment on the situation after their earlier statement on the day of the assault which said
"We are in the process of gathering more information and will refrain from making any further comment,"
Walden played in Green Bay Packers 27-15 victory over Detroit Lions at Ford Field in their game week 12 Thanksgiving Day encounter. The linebacker made eight tackles during the game in a brilliant performance as Packers maintained
their unbeaten run.
A further hearing is scheduled for December 7th.
