‘Packers' WR Greg Jennings out for 2-3 weeks’, confirms Coach Mike McCarthy – NFL News
Green Bay Packers Coach Mike McCarthy announced Monday that wide receiver Greg Jennings will not take further part for the remainder of the regular National Football League season.
Jennings who suffered a knee sprain in the third quarter during the Packers 46-16 mauling of Oakland Raiders had to be carted off the field and did not return for the rest of the game. The wide receiver will be able to make a return
at the start of the playoffs with Coach McCarthy confirming he will be out for at least two or three weeks.
"We have three games left," McCarthy said. "Yes, I would think it'd be safe to say he'll be back for the playoffs. We feel fortunate that it is only a couple weeks.”
Jennings suffered his injury while being tackled making an 8-yard reception. The loss of the wide receiver however will not be a huge blow for the Packers since they have strength in depth at the position.
The Packers can count on Jordy Nelson, James Jones, Donald Driver and Randall Cobb to fill in at the position while tight-end Jermichael Finley can also play at wide receiver.
"Greg's a playmaker, and it's hard to fill in (for) a guy like that," tight end Finley said. "But we've got playmakers all through our offense. Young guys are going to have to step up, or the guys that already in will have to step
up. Next man up."
Jennings came to the Packers training ground on Monday and went through a check up with the medical staff.
"He's upbeat," McCarthy said, "He was in here for treatment, had a process to go through it with the medical staff."
Green Bay Packers are 13-0 this season and have secured a first round bye week. The team will look to make NFL history by going the entire regular season unbeaten. The Packers will face Kansas City Chiefs this Sunday with victory
securing them home field advantage for all games in the playoff rounds. They will play against division rivals Chicago Bears and Detroit Lions in their final two games of the regular season.
Coach Mike McCarthy is expected to not rest his best players for the final three weeks.
