Packers’ Aaron Rodgers wins Super Bowl MVP award (Part 4)
This is a continuation of the previous article, discussing Green Bay Packers’ quarterback Aaron Rodgers winning the Super Bowl MVP award.
He again had a bit of trouble in the second half. At the beginning, he threw five incomplete passes in a row. The team was getting worried. Rodgers seemed to have slowed down while the Steelers were speeding up.
But the Packers wouldn’t give up. Defensive end Clay Matthews hit Steelers’ running back, Rashard Mendenhall, and forced a fumble. After that, Rodgers went back to his normal, amazing self and led the team 55 yards downfield to score another touchdown.
Rodgers ability to read plays and do exactly what has to be done is amazing. On third and ten at the Steelers’ 41 yard line, Rodgers hit Nelson for a 38 yard catch and run. Nelson wove in and out of the defence and ended up at the three yard line.
On first and goal at the three, Rodgers looked as though he was about to pass. But when he saw that hastily throwing the ball could result in an interception, he hung onto the ball and took a sack. Having lost five yards on the play, Rodgers connected with
Jennings on second and goal to put the Packers ahead 28-17.
"Outstanding throw", Jennings said.
And from that point, Rodgers had done all that he could. It was up to the defence now. And they didn’t disappoint either. All Rodgers had to do was walk out and kneel to run out the clock.
A little while later, Rodgers was wearing a mock World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) World Heavyweight Championship belt as he hoisted his Super Bowl MVP trophy, as a reference to his “Championship Belt” touchdown celebration.
"It's a dream come true", Rodgers said from atop his teammates’ shoulders. "It's what I dreamt about as a little kid watching Joe Montana and Steve Young and we just won the Super Bowl".
Besides winning the Super Bowl and MVP award, Rodgers has also established himself as a leader that is looked up to by the team and fans alike.
"It's a special honour to be one of the leaders of this football team", said Rodgers. "This is a team effort and a great group of men, special guys and I'm just pleased to be one of the leaders.
Individually it is the top of the mountain in my sport".
Although, American rapper, Wiz Khalifa, was rooting for the Steelers with his song “Black and Yellow”, another rapper, Lil’ Wayne, appeased Cheeseheads with his song “Green and Yellow”. It was played after the Packers won the Super Bowl on Sunday.
Starr and Favre are now not the only ones, who brought the Lombardi Trophy to the hometown of their historic head coach, after whom the trophy was named. Now, it’s just rest and relaxation for Rodgers and the rest of the team from, what they affectionately
call, Titletown USA.
To say that Rodgers removed Favre’s shadow from on top of him would be an understatement. Saying that Rodgers
exploded out of Favre’s shadow would be a better way to say it. But Rodgers and the rest of The Green and Yellow have to try and do the same next season. But now that Rodgers has won the Super Bowl MVP award, it’s time to ask the one fated question,
was he really the best candidate for the award?
Did you really think that this was over? The remaining article about Green Bay Packers’ quarterback Aaron Rodgers winning the Super Bowl MVP award and who else could have won it will be discussed in the next part. Take a look!
