Packers’ Coach Mike McCarthy hints at playing Erik Walden against Giants – NFL News
Green Bay Packers’ coach Mike McCarthy has hinted that he might include linebacker Erik Walden in the starting line-up against New York Giants in the week 13 game of the National Football League current season following the player’s
release from jail after spending the weekend behind the bars.
Walden was arrested on last Friday on the charge of domestic assault over the accusation of his girl friend, who claimed that the player had assaulted her. However, the girl changed her statement later saying that the Erik had
only pushed her, and that too was because she had slapped him earlier.
Walden was released on Monday after signing a $1,000 bond. The investigation in the matter is still underway, and he has not been proven guilty yet.
When he was released, he did not answer questions regarding his participation in the game on Sunday and said that the coach was the right person to address that query.
Packers’ coach Mike McCarthy on Wednesday said that the management was reviewing Erik’s case and that he is so far expected to play.
“His situation is obviously under review, going through the legal process," the coach said. "No different than the process that the league has in place. With that, we respect that and, based on the information we have to date,
Erik will play in the game."
The coach also said that if the team initiates any disciplinary action against Erik, it would be done privately after gathering all the information and the matter will not be discussed in public.
Earlier, after getting released from the jail, Walden apologised publicly for brining negative publicity to his franchise. Green Bay is the only undefeated unit in the league after playing 11 games.
"I want to apologise to the entire organization, my teammates and the fans," Walden said. "You know, it's an ongoing process, I respect that process, and it's just unfortunate that I brought something negative from so much positive
that's going on with this organization."
Walden is playing for Packers since the year 2010. This season he has played all the 11 games and recorded 41 tackles and 3.0 sacks. He will return to the court on 7th December.
