Packers’ Erik Walden in jail for assault on girlfriend – NFL News
Green Bay Packers’ linebacker Erik Walden is under police custody after his girlfriend called police to press charges of assault against the 26 year old.
Walden’s girlfriend was taken to Green Bay hospital with injuries to the head and hands. The assault allegedly took place at Walden’s apartment on Friday at 2:30am after Packers 27-15 Thanksgiving Day victory over Detroit Lions
in which Walden played a pivotal role. His girlfriend after getting treatment for injuries notified police at 6:10am who considered the incident seriously and arrested the Linebacker at 8:00am.
With Courts closed due to the holiday festivities Walden will remain in jail until Monday when he will be charged with domestic violence-substantial battery.
Green Bay Police have confirmed the news of the arrest releasing a statement by the Hobart-Lawrence Police Chief
"The officer felt that there was enough information that was given by the victim," Hobart-Lawrence police chief Randy Bani said, according to the Green Bay Press Gazette.
Green Bay Packers are aware of Walden’s situation but have refrained from commenting on the situation until all investigations are completed releasing a small statement which confirms the news
“The Packers organization is aware of the situation involving Erik Walden. We are in the process of gathering more information and will refrain from making any further comment.”
Walden played in the game against Detroit Lions on Thursday and had a great game making eight tackles to bring his current season total up to 41 tackles and three sacks. He left the game briefly in the third quarter with a leg
injury before returning to the field.
Erik Walden has become a staple of Green Bay Packers alongside All-Pro Clay Matthews since he joined the franchise in 2010 as a free agent. Walden has played four seasons in the National Football League since he was first drafted
by Dallas Cowbows in 2008 as a 6th round pick. He was claimed on Waivers by Kansas City Chiefs where he spent the 2008 season before joining Miami Dolphins in 2009 that let go of him at the end of the season leaving Green Bay Packers to pick up
the 250 pounds Linebacker.
The Packers squad are on an eight day leave after their win over Lions and will face New York Jets on December 4th in game week 13 of the National Football League.
