Packers’ Johnny Jolly sentenced to six years in prison on drug charges – NFL News
State District Judge Denise Bradley sentenced Green Bay Packers suspended defensive lineman Johnny Jolly yesterday to six years in prison for drug possession.
Jolly was sentenced for possession of the drug Codeine during a traffic stop by Houston Police in October. He had thrown out a bag from his vehicle believed to contain Codeine while also trying to prevent Police from discovering
the drug on his person by tampering with evidence. Jolly made a tearful plea before the sentence was delivered
"I want to go to rehab to get help," Jolly told the judge
Jolly was on probation after he pleaded guilty to a charge of Codeine possession in April and was spared jail time as he was sent into rehab. The defensive lineman, however, broke the terms of his probation in October and the Judge
disregarded his tearful pleas for another chance when delivering the sentence.
Jolly, 28 was a starter throughout the 2008 and 2009 season for the Green Bay Packers but the National Football League suspended him in July 2009 after he pleaded guilty for Codeine possession in April and was forced to miss the
entire 2010 Packers season when the team went on to win the Super Bowl XLV.
Talking in a previous interview about his addiction Jolly said he used drugs “daily” before the Super Bowl. “Every time I even thought about the game coming on. I mean, that's the only way I could make it through the day.
“It kept me numb. It kept me from losing my mind. Me losing football is like me losing a loved one or a bunch of loved ones at the same time.”
“I didn't want to be around anyone," Jolly said. "I didn't want to answer no questions. And so I stayed in the room, just drunk, and watched.”
The Green Bay Packers are currently the only unbeaten side left in this season of the National Football League with a perfect 9-0 record. Their outstanding form and improving defensive performances ooze confidence and they are
favourites to make it 10-0 when they face a Tampa Bay Buccaneers side struggling for form and confidence in their game.
