Packers’ RB James Starks to undergo injury assessment before Lions game – NFL News
With a mouth watering clash at Ford Field in Detroit between Green Bay Packers and Detroit Lions tomorrow, Packers are still sweating over running back James Starks whose participation tomorrow will hinge on the assessment of his
recovery before the big game according to Coach Mike McCarthy.
Starks who took part in some light training is suffering from a sprained ankle and was listed as questionable for the game against Lions. His Coach Mike McCarthy however is optimistic that Packers best running back will make it
to the field saying
"I thought he looked good today," McCarthy said. "Today was pretty much a little up-tempo, walk-through-type practice, just more of going through all of the different situations and assignments that we felt we needed to hit that
we were not able to get done yesterday."
Starks got the injury late into Packers 35-26 win over Tampa Bay Buccaneers in game week 11 of the National Football League. The injury could not have come at a worse moment for Packers who will face their toughest assignment yet
against division rivals Detroit Lions as the Super Bowl XLV champions look to maintain their unbeaten run this season.
The running back was although in high spirits on Tuesday and feels that his condition is improving daily.
"I was going through a little bit of pain, but I can deal with pain," Starks said. "Running backs play with a lot of pain, so I can get through it. I just have to start tolerating it a little better. I feel good, though. I feel
better."
Starks has been a major influence on the unbeaten Packers side even with quarterback Aaron Rodgers taking most of the plaudits. The 25 year old has covered 541 rushing yards this season and a single rushing touchdown as his team
keep on swatting aside challengers this season.
McCarthy will be hoping that Starks makes it through on Thursday with the Packers cover a little thin in the RB position with only rookie Brandon Saine available. The Packers could also convert fullback John Kuhn on the RB position.
The Thursday night game has been sold out for months and the game is being billed as a showcase for the NFL. As the excitement rises Starks return may just provide Packers with the mental boost to beat the last team to defeat them.
