Packers fans, why are you so upset about Favre being gone?

Yes, he was a great asset to the Packers, and yes, he has great history with them. But he was going to leave sometime. I mean, he is 38 and was retired. If he had stayed retired, green bay would've still had rodgers as starter, so why get mad? and even if favre had stayed with the packers, he would've probably only played for about 2 more seasons. so either way, he wasn't going to be QB for green bay that much longer anyway, so why get upset? Don't blame ted thompson or mike mcCarthy for any of this, because all Favre had to do was NOT retire after last year's season. He brought all of this upon himself, and basically, he doesn't have respect for green bay seeing that he put us all through this, and that his first choices were Vikings and the Bears. Now just from considering going to one of those teams is a slap in the face for green bay, but his crazed fans are too blind to see it. Should we have sympathy for Favre? yes or no?

  1. i don't think we should have any sympathy for him, i agree, he did bring this all on himself and kept saying he was going to retire. Then he finally did, and then took it back.

    it's his own fault

  2. finally, SOMEBODY actually said it and in the right words, your exactly right even if he retired or went to another team Rodgers would still be starting so why get mad at Rodgers he's just doing his job and let him do it and if you doubt him then he probably will do bad so all this doubt aint helpin him out one bit

  3. I think the people who are upset, are upset because they've grown attached to their legends. Brett Favre is a familiar face, who took the Packers to to victory against the Patriots in Superbowl XXXI. He then took the Pack to the brink several times, but they haven't made it since. The fans are hoping for another "happy ending" again. Upsets are the result of either 1) Thwarted Intention, 2) Unfulfilled Expectation 3) Undelivered Communication.

To answer your question I think they are upset because of all three.

They are also upset because Favre retired, then due to pressure from his agent (I bet) and his own uncertainty waivered back and forth and then in the 11th hour decided to play again, only too late as the Team was already being re-built to fill the vacuum left when he announced his retirement at the end of last season. I imagine the owner and management had already ear-marked the money they saved by not paying Favre for next season and would have to have backed out of other deals with other players who were in negotiation. Such flip-flopping and uncertainty is not good, and it teased the ownership and management and the fans to the point of this big upset.

If The great Brett Favre was so uncertain and flip-floppy in quarter-backing a game like he was with his career decisions, then he wouldn't have been the great Brett Favre. The greats need to be like old soldiers. They must not die, but just fade away.

  4. Totally agree with everything word you just said, I myself am a REAL packers fan and I am happy to see that a major distraction is gone. All those fans that chant Bring Back Brett are not REAL packers fans and should just go cheer for the jets now. I look at whats best for the team and what do ya know? Aaron Rodgers is a TEAM player and not some guy who is trying to "stick it" to the coaches and managers. Packers should have a good seasons since there are no more distractions on the field...

And you got to look at the positives on the quarterback change. I mean Brett has the experience but Rodgers can actually keep his cool under pressure. I mean we saw this on the Dallas game last season and we will hopefully see this all of this season too. Not to mention he is also more mature than Brett by not getting into this whole situation...

  5. ABSOLUTELY NOT!!!  He got what he wanted and why should anyone have sympathy for him?  He wanted to retire so he got that.  He wanted to come back and play, but used that as a ploy to go play for another team, but he didn't get the team he wanted...poor, poor, pitiful thing. I have not one ounce of remorse for him.  He's 38, he's rich and he should have either stayed playing for the Packers and the fans who stood behind him for 15 years or stayed in retirement.  I have no tears or sympathy for a greedy soul.

    Peace & Love :)

  6. i don't think we need to have sympathy for him, but we should realize that a lot of pressure now falls on aaron rodgers and the packers' brass(particularly ted thompson and mark murphy) to get this team to the playoffs minus favre...if they can do that, then all will be forgiven, but if they can't, there's going to be a firestorm in green bay questioning why the team wouldn't want him back

  7. The Packers are going to stink without him. I think A Rodgers will have too much pressure.

  8. I think that all are to blame for this whole thing. Relationships were destroyed and that is what made it so hard for Farve to come back to Green Bay. I hope he does well as a Jet. Yes I will give Rodgers a chance to prove himself.  But it is really sad to lose Farve. Yes I have sympathy for Farve. We don't know all that happened thr out the years between Farve and Ted Thompson and Mike McCarthy. So I say all is to blame. Anyone of them could have stopped the crazy train. I do think that Trying to buy off Farve was a bad move for the Packers.

  9. Couldn't agree more!!

  10. Your Answer:

I'm not upset, but lets just say im surprised at the packers reasoning...

First, I would look all the previous years, I complied a list of all the 1st or 2nd QB's taken in their drafts from 1991 to 2005 ...

Todd Marinovich, Dan McGwire, David Klingler, Tommy Maddox, Drew Bledsoe, Rick Mirer, Heath Shuler, Trent Dilfer, Steve McNair, Kerry Collins, Tony Banks, Bobby Hoying, Jim Druckenmiller, Jake Plummer, Payton Manning, Ryan Leaf, Tim Couch, Akili Smith, Chad Pennington, Giovanni Carmazzi, Michael Vick, Drew Brees, David Carr, Joey Harrington, Carson Palmer, Byron Leftwich, Eli Manning, Phillip Rivers, Alex Smith, Aaron Rogers

Look at the chances of these QB's being busts. I bet a few of these QB's you dont even recognize, and they were picked as the best 2 QBs in the draft. Im not quite sure why Green Bay is so quick to get rid of a QB that is one of the best ever. Everyone knows he can play and if we got to the NFC championship with the YOUNGEST TEAM IN THE NFL!!...the team will only get better, and when Brett retires, even if you wouldn't have had Rogers anymore, the team around him is going to be great. Brohm is a good choice and there will be many more QB's available, but the chance of anyone of them being remotly close to how good Favre was, well just look at the list and I think there is your answer.

    - A REAL Packers Fan as well

  11. Because, he's served 15 hard working, great seasons for Green Bay, He's like a legend in Packer History. And no one is sure about Rodger's yet
