Packers’ linebacker Erik Walden apologises after getting released from jail – NFL News
Green Bay Packers’ linebacker Erik Walden has apologised to fans, teammates and his organization for bringing negative publicity to the franchise.
Walden was arrested on Friday on the charge of domestic assault, and was released when he signed a $1,000 bond on Monday after spending the weekend in jail.
Walden’s girlfriend had accused him of assaulting her. Later, she changed her statement saying that it was her who initiated fight with the player and had slapped him. Following it, the girl said, Walden pushed him.
The investigators were sceptical about the changing statements and decided to pursue the investigation, which is still underway.
It is still unclear whether Walden is guilty or not as no formal charges have been field, but the linebacker is remorseful about the negative publicity he brought to the franchise, which is in the limelight for its unbeaten run
in the season.
"I want to apologise to the entire organization, my teammates and the fans," Walden said. "You know, it's an ongoing process, I respect that process, and it's just unfortunate that I brought something negative from so much positive
that's going on with this organization."
Walden started his professional career in the year 2008 with Dallas Cowboys that waived him nearly after a month of his joining. He was picked up by Kansas City Chiefs and was claimed off waivers by Miami Dolphins in the same year.
In the year 2010, he joined Packers and playing with them since then.
This season, he has played all the 11 games and recorded 41 tackles and 3.0 sacks. Packers are going to face New York Giants in the week 13 game of the National Football League current season. However, Walden’s participation in
the game is doubtful. When asked about appearance in game against Giants, Walden told the reporters to contact the Packers’ coach for the answer.
Meanwhile, Walden’s teammates have accepted his apology and are ready to move on and focus on the next games. Cornerback Jarrett Bush urged the other players to support Walden.
“That’s all you can do is rally behind him, pick him up, grab him by the shoulder, grab him by the arm and say, c’mon. What’s done is done. What’s said is said. What’s written is written,” he said.
