Packers lose WR Greg Jennings to knee sprain against Raiders – NFL News
Green Bay Packers may be invincible in the National Football League this season but they have not found a way to fend off injuries.
The Packers swatted aside the challenge from the former American Football Conference West leaders Oakland Raiders on Sunday with a thumping 46-16 victory at the Lambeau Field. The bad news is that in-form wide receiver Greg Jennings
had succumbed to a sprained knee during the match.
Jennings sustained the injury in the third quarter when trying to make an 8-yard reception on the first drive. The tangle of bodies led to the wide receiver sustaining the injury and was taken off the field. Jennings did not return
to the field fuelling rumours that the injury maybe serious.
Quarterback and Most Valued Player in waiting Aaron Rodgers sounded concerned for Jennings saying after the game
"Well, it didn't look very good," Rodgers said. "So we'll see what the MRI says tomorrow. And hopefully, we've got a bye wrapped up, so he really has close to five weeks before our (playoff) game."
Coach Mike McCarthy will not have much trouble finding a replacement in this star-studded Packers side and has great depth for the wide receiver position with Jordy Nelson, James Jones, Donald Driver and Randall Cobb all available.
Tight end Jermichael Finley can also fill in at the position and the Packers offense will not have much trouble in continuing their amazing run.
"It's the next man up right now," Finley said. "Last year, I went down at the beginning of the season and Greg stepped up. So this year, it'll be on our receiving corps to step up.
"He's a big-time playmaker on this offense and he's going to be missed. There's going to be a lot of the shoulders of whoever takes his spot."
Jennings has been one of the best players in a devastating Packers offense. The wide receiver has 67 receptions for 949 yards this season and has already scored nine touchdowns. Against Raiders he covered 20 yards making two receptions
with his contribution limited because of the injury.
The Packers are within reach of going the entire regular season unbeaten at 13-0 and Coach Mike McCarthy will put out his strongest team for the remaining games to complete the feat.
