Packers move to 13-0 brushing aside AFC West leaders Oakland Raiders 46-16 – NFL Recap
Just another brilliant day at the office for Green Bay Packers as they easily brushed aside the challenge from Oakland Raiders to continue an astonishing unbeaten streak winning 46-16 at the Lambeau Field in Green Bay.
Superlatives are running short to describe the Packers and their quarterback Aaron Rodgers as he put in another MVP (Most Valued Player) performance to help Packers continue their journey to NFL immortality.
Rodgers was brilliant as ever with the Packers going up 31-0 at the end of the first half. Rodgers threw for 281-yards as he completed 17 passes out of 30 attempts creating two touchdowns and being intercepted for just the sixth
time this season.
"This is the kind of game you want to play going into the playoffs," Rodgers said.
The Packers now have a record of 13-0 and with just three more games left to play can, in their current form easily complete an unbeaten season.
"(If we're) taking care of things and keeping our focus on improving the quality of play, I don't think we can be beat," McCarthy said. "You could have asked me that six years ago, I would have said the same d**n thing. That's
the way we think around here."
The Oakland Raiders who are in the playoffs and top of the American Football Conference West were made to look like a high school team. Quarterback Carson Palmer threw four interceptions during the game and the Raiders committed
eleven fouls with eight coming in the first half alone.
"I'm not going to let this team keep going backwards," Raiders Coach Hue Jackson said. "The last two weeks, we haven't come close to playing or looking like the football team we've been."
Carson had just one passing touchdown as he threw for 245 yards completing just 24 out 42 attempts in a poor Raiders offensive performance and an even worse defensively.
The Packers were in complete control throughout giving Raiders no chance to settle. With such a performance coming against a playoff contender the Packers are a scary prospect for any opponent who is unlucky enough to come up against
them in the postseason.
The Raiders looked shell shocked in the first half with Packers building up a massive 31-0 lead. Running back Ryan Grant started the scoring with a brilliant 47-yard run to score the game’s first touchdown. Rookie linebacker Ryan
Grant doubled the Packers advantage collecting a 4-yard Aaron Rodgers ending an 80-yard drive.
Kicker Mason Crosby made it 17-0 at the start of the second quarter with a 34-yard field goal and four minutes later Rodgers sent a 37-yard missile to Wide Receiver Jordy Nelson to score the Packers third touchdown of the night.
Ryan Grant got his second touchdown of the night at 7:10 in the second quarter with a 6-yard rush and the Packers were cruising at 31-0.
The Raiders got their first points of the night to show they were also on the field in the third quarter. Raider’s running back Michael Bush rushed for two yards to peg back the Packers to 34-7 at 8:19. Five minutes later the Packers
returned to scoring Mason Crosby scored a field goal and a few seconds later Erik Walden returned a Raiders fumble five-yards for a touchdown. Crosby missed the resulting kick attempt and the Packers gained nine points to bring the score to 43-7 at the end
of the third.
The Packers shifted down a gear in the fourth quarter taking just three points through another Mason Crosby Field goal at 14:24. The Raiders scored a two point safety at 11:05 when Packers Matt Flynn was sacked in the end-zone
by Rolando McClain and got just their second touchdown of the night as Palmer finally threw a scoring 5-yard pass to Kevin Boss at 4:52.
The 46-16 victory gives the National Football Conference North Champions a playoff bye. The only bad news during the game for Green Bay was the injury to Wide Receiver Greg Jennings knee.
