Packers’ running back James Stark doubtful against Lions – NFL News
Green Bay Packers running back James Starks has a sprained ankle, and is doubtful for Packers Thanksgiving Day encounter against the Detroit Lions in game week 12 of the National Football League at the Ford Field in Detroit on
Sunday.
During the week 11 game against Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Starks was injured during the Packers hard fought 35-26 victory leaving the field in the fourth quarter with a sprained ankle and was not able to join his team for practice
on Monday but Packers Coach Mike McCarthy does not believe that the injury is too bad and is optimistic that his star running back can make it back in time for the Lions game.
"He tested out well, and he has a chance to possibly do something on the field," McCarthy said. "That's our plan with him."
"I thought James was (good) not only running the ball but the checkdowns, which to me is an extension of the run game," McCarthy said. "He's making people miss, he's stepping out of arm tackles. We didn't have 100 percent clean
looks yesterday running the football. But I think James is getting better and stronger, and hopefully he can play this week."
Team mate and fellow running back Ryan Grant is also optimistic that Starks can make it back in time telling reporters after practice on Monday that Starks is confident and in good spirits about the injury.
The 25 year old joined Green Bay Packers in 2010 as a sixth round draft. He has had a great 2011 season covering 541 yards with 120 rushing attempts while becoming an important cog in the Packers unbeaten run this season which
after Sunday’s game is up 10-0.
The Packers will face their sternest test yet against National Football Conference North division rivals Detroit Lions on Sunday November 27th. The Lions (7-3) are in good form and their physicality will greatly test
the Packers as they look to hand the Super Bowl XLV winners their first defeat this season.
The game will be the most highly anticipated match in the 2011 regular season with both teams in great form and fans can expect a feisty encounter at the Ford Field.
