I'm going to be in costa rica from early June until late July, I was wondering if anybody had any suggestions on clothing. I will be in San Jose and the Nicoya Peninsula. Is it appropriate to wear athletic shorts most of the time?

  1. Costa Rica is a tropical paradise.  You need light clothing, because it gets  HOT .  In June & July it rains almost daily for an hour or so, so best to have an umbrella (the fold up kind are easy to carry,  also easy to lose  lol).

Shorts are definately appropriate, along with tank tops, and flip flops.  Having a hat for sun protection is a good idea too.

    Enjoy your trip.

  2. cotton fresh, nicoya is toooooo hot

  3. i suggest you to wear punky clothes

  4. Yes - I have been going to Costa Rica every year for the last twelve years - and will be going there again next month - and that is the only thing I wear there - unless I go to an upscale dinning place then I wear a good pair of trousers and decent shirt.

Athletic shorts and sport or walking shorts are in.

For the most part Costa Ricans dress just like we do so you really should not worry about it.

Pack as lightly as you can!  I always take clothes with me and when I return to Florida I unpack and have never worn some of the stuff I have taken with me on the trip!

    Have a good Trip!

  5. I go there each year in Noveember-Just after the rains end. Shorts are fine, but not in the big cities. You should wear a skirt or long pants if you are a woman and long pants if you're a man. I'd bring an umbrella and something to read as this is the rainy season. It rains for at least four hours in the afternoon and comes down hard. Wear flip flops so your feet can get wet in the puddles but have a chance to dry off. NO JEWELRY! Unless you want to get robbed. Look like you have no money and you'll be okay. Take an extra copy of your plane ticket and passport and keep it safe. You will need 27 dollars American to pay your exit tax. No Checks or credit cards.

  6. Bring comfortable clothing and walking shoes. I suggest cotton shirts, cargo shorts/ pants and when at the Nicoya peninsula those sandals that strap on your ankles with the rubber soles.
