I'm going to Australia during their winter (five weeks around July) and will be traveling all across the country- a short stay in Sydney, Adelaide, a trip through the outback, and then to Cairns. What is the weather like in each area and how should a pack for the changing climates? Thanks!

  1. The trick for this trip will be to pack clothes you can layer on top of one another as it gets colder, and take off when it gets hotter.

In sydney and adelaide you will probably need long pants and long sleeves, and a warm jacket/coat and scarf for the cold mornings and evenings. Unless your goingIt rarely snows in Australia.

In cairns and the outback, i doubt you will need the coat and scarf. It will be warm enough just to wear long pants and a t-shirt in the height of a sunny day.

  2. Wtf person answering above me

i live in australia and it has never ever snowed in sydney or adelaide

in sydney it gets around 13 degrees celcious so pack pretty warm clothes

it doesn't get that cold here.

oh and the nights can be freezing so pack warm pjs

cairns is warm all year around and the outback has freezing nights but fairly warm

    days

    hope i helped!!!

  3. It should be cool and fine while you're here.

Except in Cairns where it will be warm and sunny, as usual.

I doubt very much if you'll see any snow, unless you specifically go to an alpine region.

You didn't say where in the outback of Australia you'd be going. So I took a guess and looked up the temps in the Alice Springs-Uluru area.

    Have a wonderful holiday.

Seasonal Weather for Sydney and Adelaide and Alice Springs, Australia

Approximate Averages for July in all three areas.

    Average High  16 ºC - 61 ºF

    Average Low 8 ºC  - 46 ºF

    No snow

It will probably be sunny with clear skies

    Weather in Cairns

Cairns is a truly tropical city. The weather is nothing short of sensational during the most part of year, being between April - December.

During the cooler months of June and July you may encounter rugged up locals complaining about the bitter cold conditions.

After all, the temperature can sometimes get down to a "freezing" 10 degrees Celsius (65 F) overnight during these months, which is considered to be winter.

(The Cairns locals are a little spoiled they have wonderful weather all year.)

  4. Hello,

Australia is a country of extreme weather. I've done some research for you. Hope it helps:

    SYDNEY, New South Wales

    Average min: 9.2°C

    Average max: 16.9°C

    July (Coldest month)

    Average min: 8.0°C

    Average max: 16.2°C

    August:

    Average min: 8.9°C

    Average max: 17.7°C

    --------------------

    ADELAIDE, South Australia

    June

    Average min: 8.1°C

    Average max: 16.1°C

    July

    Average min: 7.4°C

    Average max: 15.3°C

    August

    Average min: 8.2°C

    Average max: 16.7°C

    --------------------

    CAIRNS, Queensland

    June

    Average max: 25.9°C

    July

    Average min: 17.0°C

    Average max: 25.7°C

    August:

    Average min: 17.4°C

    --------------------

For the outback, it can be very hot and at night, freezing so I suggest you pack an equal amount of winter and summer clothing and items.

Hope this helps and I hope you will enjoy your time in Australia!
