Packing to go on a cruise?

I understand that we are not allowed to bring our own soda or water onboard Carnival cruise ship but do they have any other rules about liquids or anything that we cannot take? I am so use to flying restrictions that I thought I should ask.

  1. You can bring one 12 pack on Carnival.

  2. No soda and no alcohol.

Otherwise, you're fine- they dont have restrictions on other liquids like shampoo or toothpaste, so dont worry about that.

  3. Completely agree with miss-xxazia.  Cruiselines allow a reasonable amount to be brought on board.  I brought a 2 liter with no problem and I've heard many people brought a 12 pack.  Now there won't be a refridgerator in your room so your soda is not going to be cold and if you really worry about no soda for a week, you can always buy the Fountain Card for all the soda you can drink.  You are allowed to bring water on board as well and Carnival provides you free water when you disembark at each port.

However, there are plenty of beverages on board.  Nearly every room has a drink machine that has several types of juice, tea, lemonade.  Also, you will be able to get anything at port as well.

No reason to bring wine though as the cost of the bottles are so inexpensive that unless you are a true sommelier who likes the expensive wines, you'd be most pleased with the selection.  And most of the bottles are only $20 and if you bring your own, it's usually a $10 corking fee which isn't that much of a savings.

And the alcohol is cheaper than any bar.  You can get a bucket of beer for about $20.  Each liquor drink is about $5 and is served in a large hurricane glass--and they definitely don't stiff you on the liquor either.  It's so cheap in the Caribbean.  They can buy cases on the islands.  St Martins sells 5th of Absolut for about $4-5 each, St Thomas the average is about $7, so no need to bring your own liquor either.

    Enjoy!

  4. I respectfully disagree with the above commenter.  I've actually brought sodas onboard Carnival cruises just fine, although it was at a destination port that I brought it on, not the home port.  However, I met a bunch of people onboard who brought their own wine - that's totally okay.  They'll just charge you a $10 corking fee.

I believe knives and guns are a no-no...  They do put your baggage through an xray machine.

The best resource, of course, is to give them a call - they're always so helpful with any questions you ask!

Here's some advice though...  Don't forget a power strip and alarm clock!  I've cruised with Carnival a few times and had only ONE outlet each time.  Not cool if you need to plug in a curling iron, hair dryer, phone charger, alarm clock, etc.  And without an alarm clock, you would otherwise not know the time, really.  Not cool on the last morning when you need to get off the ship by morning!

Garment bags are the way to go.

Carnival is usually very generous about supplying samples.  The last 2 times I cruised with them, they provided razors, Dove shampoo, bodywash and conditioner, and toothpaste.

    Have fun, hope this helps!!!
