Pacquiao calls tax complaint ‘plain and simple harassment’ – Boxing News
In his recent media interaction, Filipino boxing star Manny Pacquiao called the tax complaint against him by Filipino tax officials ‘plain and simple harassment’. The complaint was filed last two weeks earlier when Pacquiao was unable to cooperate with the
inquiry being conducted on him. He was unable to produce documents of his tax returns, on which the Philippine tax bureau took an official step against him.
Pacquiao, clarifying his position, said he is clean and that he has never cheated the government or his country. It should be noted here that WBO welterweight champion is also a Congressman in his respective country. He further added that he will not be
facing imprisonment like his long-time rival Floyd Mayweather. He said, “I would rather see him inside the ring, not in a jail.”
Pacquiao’s statement against Mayweather came in connection to Mayweather’s recent 90-day sentence, which he will be serving after his fight with Miguel Cotto. Mayweather’s jail sentence came as a result of him being involved in a domestic violence case in
Nevada.
Pacquiao, who is confident that he will not face a jail sentence, said he will be moving ahead to his fight with Timothy Bradley with no stress of facing a court case. To a certain extent, Pacquiao is right since the tax officials in Philippines are yet
deciding whether the complaint can turn into a court case or not. If there is enough evidence, then probably Manny Pacquiao will have to go through a court trial. If not, then Manny Pacquiao will walk away clean.
For now, Manny Pacquiao is focusing on his training. In his recent interview, he asserted that he is bothered about his weight since he finds himself underweight and have troubles gaining it. For Pacquiao, going head to head with Bradley is one of the biggest
fights of his career. Bradley is an undefeated American boxer who is considered among the best in the business. If Pacquiao is unable to defend his titles against Bradley, then he will lose his pride as well. He is an icon for his country and he cannot afford
to lose at this point in time when he is talking about his retirement.
