Pacquiao might face winner of Rios vs. Alvarado – Boxing News
Former WBO welterweight titlist Manny Pacquiao might go head to head with winner of Brandon Rios vs. Mike Alvarado. According to Top Rank’s Bob Arum, there is a possibility of Pacquiao locking horns with either Rios or Alvarado, whoever stands as the better
man.
Pacquiao is currently scheduled to face Mexican legend Juan Manuel Marquez in a fourth fight on December 8 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. The Filipino fight sensation has already defeated Marquez twice before, via unanimous decision and majority decision.
The first fight between the two was a tie. In other words, Marquez stands with no wins against Pacquiao while the latter dominates the scoreboard with two victories.
Pacquiao, who is at the verge of retirement, is hoping to grab a knockout victory over Marquez to end the rivalry once and for all. He is also looking forward to a possible fight between WBC welterweight titlist Floyd Mayweather next year. However, Arum,
who promised fans he would bring Pacquiao and Mayweather face to face next year, is now seeing a fight between Pacquiao and winner of Rios vs. Alvarado.
“He (Pacquiao) wanted to fight no later than the middle of April so he can come back (to the Philippines) for the elections [next May],” said Arum in his recent interview.
“The public will go crazy for that fight. Imagine Manny against either of these animals (Rios or Alvarado.) Manny will have to become an 'animal' himself. Absolutely. These guys will make him an animal,” he added.
Arum has not yet spoken of dialogues between team Pacquiao and team Mayweather regarding the super-bout. It seems like once again the Hall of Famer promoter will ditch fans and set up Pacquiao against an opponent nobody wants to see a fight with. Fans have
been waiting for a Pacquiao vs. Mayweather fight for years now but it seems like it will never happen.
Both Pacquiao and Mayweather are talking about retiring soon and if a fight between the two does not happen by next year, it probably would never happen. Pacquiao has already lost a fight to Bradley and another loss to his portfolio will keep the Filipino
away from fighting young hungry fighters.
