Pacquiao sheds tears on national television – Boxing News
Filipino boxing king boxing king has nothing left to look up to following his brutal knockout loss to Mexican Juan Manuel Marquez. For Pacquiao, it is a shock as he suffered the same fate he had been putting his opponents through. Not just this fight, in
his previous two fights, Pacquiao looked out of form and most analysts and well-wishers were already retirement from the Filipino soon.
Nevertheless, as mighty of a warrior he is, Pacquiao has decided not to hang up his gloves, despite the many requests being made by his fans, family and friends.
Following his December 8 unbelievable loss, Pacquiao did not show any regret or complaints with the way the fight went ahead. He managed to put up a smile and congratulate his opponent. However, what the Filipino did not know was that back in his country,
his fans wept.
“The low morale, the sadness, I accept that. This is my job ... But the reaction of the Filipinos, the many who cried, especially my family, it really hurts me,” said Pacquiao while wiping moist eyes.
According to most analyst, Pacquiao faces immense pressure of his fans, media, politics and his religious commitments. In the recent years, the former WBO titlist has become a bible preacher and a congressman in his country. The pressure that comes with
such responsibilities has made him lose focus, at least that is what boxing analysts believe.
“Being the king of boxing, being the highest paid athlete in boxing ... it goes with the territory boxing . For Pacquiao, the fame was too much to handle. There were just too many things on his plate other than boxing,” analyst Ed Tolentino said.
Not just Tolentino, even Pacquiao’s long time mentor Freddie Roach admits the fact that the Filipino’s future is blurry. During the post fight conference, Roach stated his uncertainties regarding Pacquiao’s future, urging fans to allow the dust to settle.
According to Roach, the decision of retirement rests with Pacquiao but he will not train the Filipino if he feels the former WBO titlist’s condition is deteriorating. For a fighter like Pacquiao who has always been on the top, considering retirement might
not be an easy task.
