Pacquiao’s adviser: I am happy that the WBO took the time to review and do what they did – Boxing News
Michael Koncz, friend and adviser of Manny Pacquiao, has acknowledged the World Boxing Organisation’s efforts to restore the Filipino’s reputation, by reviewing the controversial split decision due to which Pacquiao lost his WBO title to Bradley on June
9 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. However, Koncz believes that the review results of the WBO’s probe into the matter will not change anything for Pacquiao.
In a recent interview, Michael Koncz said, “The WBO... they’re serious in conducting their own investigation and coming to the conclusion that Manny won. I’m happy that the WBO took the time to review and do what they did.”
He added, “It doesn’t change anything. The records are gonna be the records. I’m thankful that the WBO didn’t just sit there and say, ‘Hey, it’s not our problem.’ They did something. But they have no power or authority to do much more than reveal what their
results were. We’ll see what happens with the Attorney General’s investigation, that’s the main one... Now it’s up to their office to see if there’s any wrongdoing, or were the judges asleep.”
It should be noted here that the World Boxing Organisation had set up a bench of five international judges to review the fight and score it. The main purpose of this review was to see if Pacquiao had actually lost to Bradley or not. The bench of five judges
found Pacquiao winner of the bout. Not even a single judge scored the fight in Bradley’s favour, which proved that June 9 results were indeed controversial and the public outrage was justified.
Although the WBO now believes that Pacquiao had won, they are unable to question the authority of the judges. According to President of the World Boxing Organisation Francisco Valcarcel, the only reason for conducting this inquiry was to see what went wrong
in the arena. He added that the WBO can only order a rematch but cannot question the judges. In addition, Francisco believes that this review has proven that international judges should be a part of such mega-bouts as well, instead of just American judges.
