Pacquiao’s legal adviser believes Mayweather fight is Pacquiao’s top agenda – Boxing News
Franklin Gacal, Manny Pacquiao’s legal adviser, believes a fight against Floyd Mayweather jr. is the top priority of Team Pacquiao. However, he is uncertain if the Filipino wants to pursue the same or not. According to Gacal, when Pacquiao meets Bob Arum
next week to discuss his next fight, Mayweather should be his priority.
In a recent interview, Franklin revealed, “I think the fight with Floyd Mayweather should be on top of the agenda when he meets with Bob Arum next week.”
He added, “I think they should give the Mayweather fight another try. And if nothing happens, and there’s nothing more to expect, only then should they consider fighting Bradley or Marquez next.”
It should be noted here that Pacquiao and Mayweather were in direct contact with each other earlier this year to come to a conclusion for the mega-bout. However, they did not come to an agreement, as Mayweather’s demands did not really sit well with Pacquiao.
According to the former WBO welterweight titlist, Mayweather wanted to grab the entire pay-per-view proceedings, paying Pacquiao just $40 million flat. Pacquiao condemned Mayweather’s approach, calling it an embarrassment.
In an interview back in April, Pacquiao was asked about Mayweather’s demands, to which he replied, “I think the fight with Floyd Mayweather should be on top of the agenda when he meets with Bob Arum next week.”
Right now, Mayweather is in the jail serving his 90-day sentence. There are chances of being scheduled to fight Amir Khan, if the latter proves victorious against Danny Garcia on July 14. On the other hand, Manny Pacquiao has quite a lot of options on his
hands for his November 10 fight. Juan Manuel Marquez wants to take on Pacquiao for the fourth time but Pacquiao’s team has not replied to his request yet.
According to Team Pacquiao’s last week’s statement, the Filipino can go for Marquez, Cotto or Bradley. There was no mention of a fight against Mayweather on November 10 in their last week’s statements. If Pacquiao decides to play against Mayweather, it will
be the biggest pay-per-view seller of this year.
