Pacquiao’s wife wants him to retire – Boxing News
When Filipino fight king Manny Pacquiao was brutally knocked out by nemesis Juan Manuel Marquez in the sixth round on December 9, his cronies were shocked, and among them was his wife too, who had never seen the Filipino lay motionless on the canvas ever
before.
Soon after the fight was over, Pacquiao called out for a rematch against Marquez, a decision that was soon supported by Top Rank’s Bob Arum. However, Pacquiao’s wife does not want the rematch to happen. Jinkee Pacquiao wants the Filipino to retire, as she
believes he has nothing left to prove.
“It’s the first time I’ve seen him like that, lying on the canvas, and I was scared,” said Jinkee, who wants Pacquiao to end his career in good health, to USA Today. “I know he is still [capable] of fighting, but for me there is nothing to prove. He already
has eight [title] belts. He can retire — stop — at any time. I want him to stop now.”
Nevertheless, Jinkee did admit that Pacquiao is the sole authority of his boxing career and he will be making the final decision.
“He is the one who has the last say. Boxers risk their lives. [Some] end up in wheelchairs. I don’t want that to happen to Manny,” she added.
Not just Jinkee, every other person who knows Pacquiao or hails him as his or her hero was shocked to see him fall to Marquez. The Filipino had previously won two fights against the Mexican but this time it was not his day.
According to most analysts, Pacquiao was not prepared for the fight and he took Marquez lightly. On the other hand, Marquez had been preparing for the fight for the past four months.
Now, Pacquiao probably knows he needs to put his political career aside if he wants to go for a fifth match against Marquez. He needs to prepare better and focus on his boxing. If not, another knockout from Marquez would end his career for good.
For now, Bob Arum believes the rematch will take some time to shape up, as both fighters have priorities to attend to.
