Paddling draws? What are they?

One puts your paddle in the water and draws it towards you, bringing the canoe or boat to you, shallow, slow strokes are recommended

Though normally used with rafting, canoe, and boating, skull, and dragon races, I expect there is a whole generation out there that has found a different use for them....lol..
