Paddy Lowe believes McLaren are faster than Red Bull Racing during races – Formula 1 news
McLaren technical director Paddy Lowe has said that he is confident about his team’s chances at the upcoming Canadian Grand Prix and even the races after that as they are faster than the Red Bull Racing team during the races.
He claims that McLaren can fight back in the championship and hopefully end Red Bull’s dominance over the next few races.
Lewis Hamilton is the championship leader Sebastian Vettel’s closest rival in the championship as he is 58 points adrift in the drivers’ standings.
Paddy claims that McLaren have been improving their car quite noticeably and it is just a matter of time until McLaren catch up with Red Bull.
“We have been quicker than them [Red Bull] in the last two races in race trim, so we're actually out-performing them at that point in the weekend. Clearly in qualifying we've got quite a big gap to make up - how that advantage is gained by Red Bull we don't
know,” said Lowe.
He added that the team is working hard in order to improve its raw performance which is going to affect their racing performance particularly. He said as a result, McLaren would be capable of winning races if they use good strategies.
Red Bull Racing team has been much faster than the rest of the teams when it comes to qualifying as they have a perfect pole position scoring record so far. Nevertheless, they lost the Chinese Grand Prix to Lewis Hamilton where the 2008 Formula 1 world champion
scored his first and only win of the season so far for McLaren.
“I think we saw a good performance in Monaco [from McLaren], particularly in the race, and generally cars that go well in Monaco also go well in Canada,” said the technical director.
Jenson Button claimed before the Monaco Grand Prix that McLaren need 6 to 7 races to match the dominating pace of the Red Bull Racing team in qualifying but Lowe on the other hand stated that some developments to the MP4-26 are going to enable the team to
score good performances in the near future. Let’s see if they can catch up with the defending champions this weekend.
