Paddy Lowe promoted as McLaren’s technical director – Formula 1 news
McLaren recently announced that they are going to reveal their 2011 Formula 1 car which is going to be known as the MP4-26 on the 4th of February after the first pre-season test session in Valencia.
The team wants to reveal its new car later than their rivals Mercedes, Ferrari and Red Bull Racing Team like always and other than that, the team recently announced that they have promoted Paddy Lowe as their technical director for the 2011 Formula 1 season.
Since their new car is expected to be pretty good and more reliable as compared to their 2010 Formula 1 car, it is going to be interesting to see how Paddy influenced the engineers and the making of the MP4-26.
Lowe was the director of engineering before this and he is going to take care of McLaren’s car development as well but his new role will allow him to profit the team with even greater levels of focus as he is going to help the team with “innovative new technical
projects.”
“It's great for Neil and me to be joined by Tim as another director on the technical side. With the three of us, we'll not only be able to more efficiently spread our workload, but, through Tim and me, we'll also share race attendance,” said Lowe.
The team’s chief engineer Tim Goss will take over Paddy’s designation as the director of engineering and as a result, Neil Oatley’s responsibilities will also increase immensely in his position as the team’s director of design and development programmes.
Pat Fry was released from McLaren as he joined Ferrari midway through the last season. Since Goss has been promoted, Pat’s loss will be covered up.
“Clearly, I can't do the work of two people. As director of engineering, my role will be to co-ordinate a small team of project engineers who are responsible for the specification, design and development of our cars,” said Goss.
Paddy Lowe is the first person after Adrian Newey, who is currently the technical director of 2010’s championship winning team Red Bull, to hold the position as a technical director at McLaren.
