Paddy Lowe says McLaren okay with Lewis Hamilton’s driving style – Formula 1 news
McLaren technical director Paddy Lowe has said that the team is okay with Lewis Hamilton’s driving style.
Lowe added that they know Hamilton made a lot of mistakes in the 2011 Formula 1 season so far and all drivers do it, but despite that, they do not want Hamilton to change his racing style in the future.
He also mentioned that McLaren do not want to stop him from driving the way he does, because they believe the Brit can do better for them through driving in his own way.
The team technical director admitted that they did not give the fastest car to Hamilton for a strong start to the 2011 Formula 1 season.
Lowe commented, “But I don't think we should take away from what Red Bull has achieved and particularly what Sebastian has achieved. Their reliability rates both mechanically and operationally and driver-wise in terms of incidents has been extraordinary
actually.”
He went on to mention, “It involves across the board and I don't think it is just a matter of 'Lewis, don't make so many mistakes'. Everything in this world is complex, every incident has more to it. We have got to on the assistance side to make sure we
are robust.”
Apart from that, Lowe stated that they had good years in the past as compared to 2011 in terms of results. In addition, he mentioned that Hamilton had an extraordinary run of mechanical and operational reliability but unfortunately, they have not matched
that level again since then. However, he vowed that they will try to improve on their performance.
Hamilton had disappointing race weekends in Canada and Belgium in the 2011 Formula 1 season so far, as he retired from both of the Grands Prix due to accidents.
The 26-year-old driver won two races so far for his best possible ending in the 2011 title fight. After completing 14 rounds of the season, Hamilton is placed at the fifth position with 168 points in the 2011 drivers’ championship.
In the Singapore Grand Prix, he came at the fifth position in the final race classifications after driving at the Marina Bay Street Circuit.
Let’s see how he manages the last five races of the season following his fifth position in Singapore.
