Padraig Harrington, Zach
Johnson, Justin Leonard all in at Travelers Championship
Three-time major winner Padraig Harrington, 2007 Master champion Zach Johnson and 1997 Open Championship winner Justin Leonard, will tee off in the six million dollar Travelers Championship, which will take place at the Tournament Players Club at River Highlands
from 20 to 26 June.
The Travelers Championship is the 32nd event on the Professional Golf Association tour, which takes place every year in June right after the US Open. Last year’s event was clinched by Bubba Watson, and the world number four is bidding on the title
as well.
Harrington, who is considered one of the most successful golfers of his time, has claimed 21 victories in his professional career. In addition to that, he won the British Open Championship in 2007 and 2008 followed by the PGA Championship in the same year.
The 39-year-old was not certain about playing in the tournament because it took place right after the US Open and a week before the AT&T Nationals. The schedule seemed tiring for the player, who was thinking of playing in the BMW International Open on the
European tour.
Since, the tournament carries $1.08 million winner purse and 500 FedEx points, the Dubliner is ready to take a chance at the title.
So does Johnson, who has seven PGA Tour trophies lying in his trophy case at home. The American won the Masters in 2007 and finished tied in the third spot in the 2010 PGA Championship. Owing, to his form, the player was selected for the Ryder Cup American
team by Corey Pavin.
Meanwhile, Leonard has not been up-close to a victory since 2008 and will be looking forward to mark the end of a win-less period. In pursuit of a title, he has decided to play in nearly all the events on the PGA tour provided he makes the cut.
However, winning the title will not be that easy, as he will face a tough defence from Watson and a good fight from players like Kenny Perry, Vijay Singh, Lucas Glover, Jhonattan Vegas and Anthony Kim.
