Padraig Harrington, a great player lost in his past wins
How bad have things become for Padraig Harrington? So bad, that even his fans are beginning to point out the obvious flaws in his performance. Despite exhibiting phenomenal play in some events, he has been faltering and trying to bounce back.
Harrington's hard-earned reputation seems to be going down the drain, as he has not shown his best form since 2007. It remains to be seen whether he will break his winning drought in the current season.
Winning this year will not be easy, as several other players have already geared up to end their victory drought. He will have to rack up victories in major events if he really wants to stay out of trouble and make a name for himself in the world golf yet
again.
Although he has been battling multiple problems that have taken a toll on his performance, Harrington has been able to exhibit remarkable play until 2007.
He won 28 titles in his pro career. His profile includes 3 major wins, which reflects his phenomenal performance. His last major win was in the year 2008. Since this last major win, the 40-year-old has been on the decline. His profile shows that he has participated
in almost all the prestigious tournaments. Despite exhibiting good play in most of the events, his winning ratio is not as good.
Analysing his performance before 2007 and after 2007 will help gain some insight into his career. Before 2007, his winning ratio was outstanding, as he managed to gain major victories. However, after 2007, his progress stalled, putting him behind his competitors.
Even Harrington himself seems sceptical whether he will be able to regain his lost form in coming days. In 2012, he only managed to take home PGA Grand Slam of Golf title, in which, only three players played against him.
Despite bad performance in the recent years, Harrington has a lot to boast about. His initial performance, after he turned professional golfer in 1995, had been remarkable. His first pro victory came in the Peugeot Spanish Open in 1996. Harrington stunned
his rivals in the event, posting a 4-stroke lead against Gordon Brand. After the win, he faced a winless streak until 2000. The year 2000 proved lucky for the Irish, as he won two events on the European Tour.
After winning two events in the year, Harrington got on the winning track and remained successful until 2008. In 2008, he managed to win two major championships. The victories also included PGA Championship. It was hard to imagine that after winning two
major championships in row, Harrington will get off the winning track.
In 2009, he managed to regain his momentum to some extent when he won the Irish PGA Championship. Since then he had not been able to win an event. Despite all the talk of poor performance and winning drought, Harrington's fans are hopeful that he can make
a comeback and remind them of his past performance.
Putting aside all the criticism, observers think he will find it hard to bounce back this year. Since PGA Tour typically features best players and typically pits top-flight players against their rivals, Harrington does not seem to be in a strong position
right now and cannot pose a serious threat to his competitors in the coming days.
