Padraig Harrington heads to Reno to occupy a place for the Ryder Cup defence
Less than two months are left for the most prestigious event in the world of golf to star, the Ryder Cup 2012. The venue for this auspicious event is the Medinah Country Club. The six-day event is going to start on the 25th of September and is
going to end on the 30th of September.
The biggest names in golf are going to fight till the end to qualify for the Ryder Cup. There are just a few spots and the best will have to fight for them.
The list of contenders for the qualification of the Ryder Cup also includes Irish professional golfer Padraig Harrington. Harrington is one of the strong contenders and is more likely to make the European team for the Ryder Cup.
Before the Ryder Cup starts, there are still a few tournaments left in which the players will have to give outstanding performances.
The upcoming important tournament is the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational. The last time Harrington did not play in this tournament was in the year 1999 and ever since he has been invited in the tournament every year.
This year Harrington was not able to make it and will be heading to play in the Reno-Tahoe Open. The Irishman is playing the tournament to make Jose Maria Olazabal’s European team for the defence of the Ryder Cup in Medinah.
Harrington will have to play in the tournament despite the fact that this tournament offers less winning prize then the one in Akron.
Harrington is fully concentrating on the upcoming events so that he can defend the Cup at Medinah. He has been working on his short comings and hopefully his efforts will pay off soon.
Harrington is working very hard since the British Championship Open. In an interview he said that he is spending a great deal of time, “working on my wedge play to get my shoulder square at impact”.
This is something Pete Cowen made him realize at the Royal Lytham & St Annes Golf Course. The break which came last week gave him enough time to put his game in order.
