Padraig Harrington is hoping to qualify for the Cadillac Championship by winning Honda Classic
The 40-year-old Padraig Harrington is hoping to qualify for the Cadillac Championship, after missing the chance to play at the Match Play Championship, due to an unimpressive finish at the Northern Trust Open, at Riviera Country Club.
Harrington did not qualify for the Accenture Match Play Championship due to an average performance in the current season.
He currently stands at the 87th position in the world rankings and is still finding a way to improve his performance.
His absence from a leading tournament is a demoralising factor for him. Now, he is striving to secure a place at the next World Golf Championship staged tournament of Cadillac Championship, scheduled from March 8 to 11.
Before Cadillac, he will tee off on March 1 at the sensational event of the Honda Classic, staged by the Professional Golf Association Tour in Florida.
The tournament is extremely important for the Irish professional to qualify for the Cadillac Championship.
He is only eligible to play the Honda Classic at the PGA National Champion Course, Palm Beach Gardens, because he did not display any amazing performances since January.
Previously, he appeared at the Northern Trust Open and finished on the 44th position.
He was unable to record an under par score on the leaderboard. Analysts said that the 4-over 288 was an unimpressive figure he recorded.
Scoring just seven birdies never helps a player. Moreover, when there are 15 unimpressive bogeys, top positions cannot be grabbed. The same happened with the Irish professional.
Harrington was also aware about the fact that if he did not finish the tournament among the top-5 leaders, he will miss the next WGC event.
He missed the opportunity to get back in the top 50 golfers of the world and is not eligible for the Accenture Match Play Championship.
The only chance left for him is the Honda Classic. If he can repeat his winning history of 2005 again, he can qualify for the Cadillac Championship, scheduled from March 8 to 11.
However, there are many top players in the field at Florida. Tiger Woods is the leading title contender, playing his debut at Honda Classic, after turning professional.
He needs to put in some extra efforts and hit some impressive strokes. He can only qualify for the Cadillac Championship if he wins the glory of the Honda Classic, like he did in 2005.
