Padraig Harrington is tuning up for Masters, will play the Shell Houston Open
Padraig Harrington is in the field of the Shell Houston Open, preparing well for the upcoming first major, the Masters, scheduled from April 5 to 8, 2012.
The 40-year-old Irish professional golf player has high aims for both the tournaments. He is hoping to deliver his best in Texas and Georgia.
For that purpose, he is spending most of his time in practise. He has not played many events in the current year and is striving hard to improve his putting and driving.
“My putting routine is not quite 100 per cent which is causing the problem. It’s more evident to me after the work I done on my routines for the rest of my game,” Harrington said.
He currently holds the 93rd world ranking position and has a winless career for about five years.
The last time he won was when he bagged two major titles, the PGA Championship and The Open Championship, in 2008.
Since then, he was unable to record another victory on the PGA or at any major tournament.
However, he won the Asian Tour staged event of the Iskandar Johor Open in 2010. Nevertheless, he is facing huge challenges at the PGA and major events, due to high competition and leading performances by others.
Harrington practised a great deal and now, he is going for the final tune-up before the Masters.
There are many chances for the Irishman to lead the scores and to impress the spectators on the course.
The Masters Tournament is not so easy to win. All the leading golf players are in the field and Harrington has to face tough challenges from the others at Augusta.
Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy, Luke Donald, Lee Westwood, Martin Kaymer, Steve Stricker and Phil Mickelson are some of the leading names that are in the field of the first major of 2012.
They are the hottest players and are making the tournament more competitive and appealing. Similarly, they are also the world top ranked golfers and have won many titles in their careers.
Harrington worked hard to improve his putting, driving, accuracy and stroking during his lay-off period.
Hence, he has a chance to improve further at the Shell Houston Open and to be impressive at Augusta as well.
