Padraig Harrington preparing for the Ryder Cup
Padraig Harrington is gearing up to play at this year’s mega event of the Ryder Cup, scheduled to start from September 25 to 30, at Medinah Country Club, Medinah in Illinois.
In the past, he was in the European Team and competed well against the Americans six times. He made his debut appearance in 1999, but unfortunately the European Team lost the tournament.
Harrington played in 2002, 2004, 2006, 2008 and 2010. During this period, his team only lost once in 2008. His presence supported his team a lot and he was the leading star of his team.
The 14-time PGA Tour winner is again looking to continue his performance for the European Team in 2012.
However, at this stage he is facing difficulties, as he currently stands at the 37th position in the European Tour rankings.
Only top-10 players will achieve the honour to play with the European Team and two will be picked by the captain of the team.
Recently, Harrington played at the PGA-organised tournaments in the United States. Unfortunately, he was unable to impress the others at the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am and Northern Trust Open in February.
He performed average in both the events. His poor performances also became the reason for his disqualification from the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship, starting on February 22.
Similarly, his past performance at the European Tour was also unimpressive. He played the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship and Volvo Golf Champions in January and has not won any of them.
Now, he is planning to improve his performance and skills for the upcoming event of the Honda Classic, starting from March 1.
If he wins the tournament, he will improve his ranking in the European Team standings and can qualify for the Ryder Cup for the seventh time.
He will not only boost his standings, but he will also become eligible for the other mega event of the WGC-Cadillac Championship, scheduled to start from March 8 to 11.
There are two rewards waiting for the 40-year-old Irish professional. He only has to deliver his best on the course.
If he makes himself comfortable in such a competitive environment, then it is possible that he will be playing the Cadillac Championship and the Ryder Cup both this year.
