Padraig Harrington reclaims top 19 spot in OWGR
The Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) has been revised. Padraig Harrington is back in the top twenty players after winning the Iskandar Johar Open that took place in Malaysia on Sunday.
The three time major winner surged back into the list from which he was abandoned. Padraig Harrington was winless for two years when Colin Montgomerie, the captain of the Ryder Cup winning side picked him for the team.
The 39-year-old Irish won the Ryder Cup foursomes and four balls, but no one saw this coming. The veteran won the tournament of $1.25 million. This victory got him back on track and resultantly he was ranked 19th.
As for the rest of the players, Tiger Woods is still king of the pack with Lee Westwood eyeing the number one title. Phil Mickelson is the number three, Martin Kaymer is fourth, and Steve Stricker is fifth, whereas, Jim Furyk is sixth in the (OWGR).
The rankings were revised half an hour ago. However, speculations are that the next time OWGR will be revised, Tiger Woods, would have been replaced, provided Lee Westwood wins the upcoming tournament.
Lee Westwood would have claimed the sacred spot, if he would not have taken a withdrawal from the Portugal Masters, 2010. The Englishman injured himself at Kings Barns a week ago, where the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship took place.
He was coming off the seventh tee when his right ankle turned. This sent a shooting pain through his whole leg, hence his performance got affected. Despite the dislocated ankle, Westwood took the 11th spot on the leader board. However, according
to the player, he will be teeing off in the Masters, which is arriving in the next week.
On the other hand, Tiger Woods is all so quiet. Ever since the Ryder Cup, he has not stepped out of his house. Although, he plans to tee off in the HSBC championship, which will be staged in Shanghai next month, but by then he would have lost his title.
Tiger has lost many important things this year, his wife, all major titles and his public image. So it won’t really make a difference if he loses his five year era as number one.
