Padraig Harrington records 73 in the second round of Shell Houston Open
Padraig Harrington saw his leaderboard position worsen, as he carded a 73 in the second round of the Shell Houston Open on Friday, March 30, 2012.
The 40-year-old Irish professional golf player was confident before the Shell Houston Open tee-off. However, he is facing difficulty to score well at the Redstone Golf Club Tournament Course in Humble, Texas.
He admitted that his performance is not up to the mark these days. He said that he has been practising hard and is trying to improve his putting and swing skills.
Harrington is eyeing the Masters scheduled to start next week. He desired to play well at the Shell Houston Open, which is the final tune-up match before the first major of the year.
“My putting routine is not quite 100 per cent which is causing the problem. It’s more evident to me after the work I done on my routines for the rest of my game,” Harrington said on Wednesday.
This site of the PGA-staged event is one of his favourite spots, but he scored a 2-under 142 after two rounds and played an average game.
He started the tournament on Thursday and scored a 3-under 69, by making four birdies and one bogey.
Then he lost his focus and carded four unimpressive bogeys in the second round of the Shell Houston Open.
Harrington tried hard to improve his ranking, but could not make an impact on his overall position due to a 1-over 73 on Friday.
He was unable to compete well and has displayed a mediocre performance so far.
Brian Davis and Louis Oosthuizen are sharing the current leading position and Harrington is nine strokes behind them.
Davis and Oosthuizen scored an 11-under 133 and competed well for the title. They left all the other professionals behind and secured the top most position by a one-stroke lead over Jeff Maggert, who is on the third position.
The Shell Houston Open is entering into the third round. All the players are putting their best foot forward and are confident to show some extra efforts, so that they can continue it in the upcoming mega event.
Harrington also needs to be more committed to the game. Analysts said that if he wants to be impressive at the Augusta, he should do some practice after this tournament.
