Padraig Harrington still leading the Iskandar Johar Open
The second round of the Iskandar Johar Open is taking place in Malaysia right now. With the round gone half way, Padraig Harrington is still in lead.
That’s quite an accomplishment for the Northern Irishman, who finished the day on an amazing note yesterday. Harrington is on a role and is determined to break his two-year winless streak. He carded a 67 to lead the Open by one stroke.
The Ryder Cup player drove two long putts on his inward nine and by then he was at 13-under 131. This 1.25 Million dollar Asian Tour event could finally bring in some good news for the three-time Major Winner.
Currently, Padraig is ahead of Taiwan’s Lin Wen-tang, who posted a 7-under 65.Lin is a five-time winner on the Asian Tour and was in very close competition with Padraig. He posted nine birdies to make his way to the top of the leader board. A missed eagle
putt on the 18th pole however drained his chances of leading the round. Overall, Lin said that the game was good.
Ever since the 2008 US PGA Championship, Harrington has not had a victory. He said that his score in the first and second round really flattered him. World Number 22 did accept that he struggled in the middle but he is very pleased. Being modest, Padraig
said that he could have accepted a score of 70 for the way he was playing.
"Hit it close at the next and then made an eagle so all of a sudden I turned an average round into quite a good round. Very pleasing. Probably need to play a bit better over the weekend but I'll settle for scoring like that”, said Harrington.
As for other players, Lee Sung, had a bogey less 68 and was 10 under after the second round. One shot further adrift were Mardan Mamat, Scott Hend and Noh Seung-Yul who all finished at 67, 67, and 69 respectively. Bogeys in the second round really dampened
the game of the other two leaders of the first round, Marcus Both of Australia and Kiradech Aphibarnrat of Thailand. As strong as they were looking yesterday, things don’t quite look the same anymore.
Even though, Padraig couldn’t really end the day with two eagles like yesterday, his amazing game still adding a lot of enthusiasm to the golf course. From the way he is playing right now, there are a lot of chances of him winning this tournament.
