Padraig Harrington to kick off a hectic 2012 season
Padraig Harrington, following a disappointing 2011 season, is kicking off a hectic 2012 season that will see him participate in four tournaments in three continents in the span of five weeks.
After a winless season last year, the Irishman slipped from the third position to 85th in the Official World Golf Rankings.
Now, he will move to South Africa at the end of this week to participate in the Volvo Champions’ tournament in Fancourt.
He shared, “I’ve been hard at work (over the winter) and itching to see if all the work has paid off . . . towards the end of last year, I felt I was regaining my consistency and was feeling more comfortable with my game”.
"Hopefully it will all come together at the Volvo as it is a title I would love to add to my CV and it would enable me to get the season off to a good start,” Harrington said about his start at the Volvo Championship next week.
In the very next week, he will fly to Abu Dhabi to play in the HSBC Abu Dhabi Championship.
Following the event in Abu Dhabi, he will have only a one-week break before he heads off for two back-to-back tournaments on the US Tour.
To end his hectic first five weeks, he will be contending in a 64-man field of the Accenture-WGC Matchplay championship in Arizona.
Therefore, he will be playing the first quarter of the season on the US Tour. He has to remain fit throughout the coming weeks if he really wants to make a good start and regain his position in the World Rankings. He will have to hold his nerves while playing
back-to-back events.
It is not an easy job to play in such a tough routine, especially for a player who is out of form from the last one year.
He will only have to focus on his game and fitness to record some good finishes in the tournaments that he will participate in.
His first appearance in Europe will be at the European Tour’s BMW PGA at Wentworth Club in May.
