Padriag Harrington falls for a double-bogey at 18th to fall out of contention in final round of Masters
The three major winner Padraig Harrington shot into contention for a brief moment on the final day of the first major event of the season, The Masters at Augusta National but fell for late double-bogey on the 18th to fell out.
The Irishman, boasted by his current form on the professional circuit, was aiming for the coveted green jacket, a title that has eluded him in his otherwise grizzled career.
He said, “I hit it very close every day. I haven't seen any of the golf, but I'd be surprised if people had as many short putts as I had for birdie today. I putted well, I just didn't hole them - I wasn't reading them right”.
Barely disappointed by his fall in the final round, Harrington insists that it was a day where he learned a lot and will probably come back to utilise his newly gained info regarding the technically tough Augusta National.
He added, “It was a good day all the way - I played well, hit it well. I take a lot of positives out of the way I played today. I've won three Majors, but that's the most comfortable I've felt through 18 holes in the last round of a Major, and I was in a
nice place mentally all day”.
Harrington has been part of the European Tour for almost two decades now and has won many laurels for his home country.
He reached the zenith of his career in 2008 when he landed ho fewer than two major titles including the Open Championship and the PGA Championship.
His bids for the Masters title have been equally stellar though the 40-year-old Irishman has never gone over to win the title.
He made his first appearance in the event in the year 2000 where he finished for a joint 19th. His highest finish in Masters came in the year 2008 when he posted a joint fifth.
He missed the halfway cut in the star-studded event for last two consecutive years, owing to form and fitness vows.
Harrington has not won a title for the last almost two years and his last victory came at the Asian Tour when in 2010 when he took over the young Korean Seung-Yul Noh by three strokes in Iskandar Johor Open.
