Paf Open Beach Volleyball tournament in Finland limited to only women’s matches – Volleyball News
According to the new plan of Federation International de Volleyball (FIVB), the 2012 Paf Open Beach Volleyball tournament will only be a single-gender competition that will feature women’s matches.
Previously, it was regarded as a double-gender event. The Paf Open successfully carried out men’s and women’s tournaments in Aland, Finland for the last four years. However, the upcoming edition of the tournament is limited to only women’s matches.
The 2012 Paf Open Women’s Beach Volleyball Tournament is scheduled to take place from August 28 to September 2. The Isle of Åland at Mariehamn will provide the backdrop for cracking action of beach volleyball. The Finland Volleyball Association will serve as the sole hosts of the event.
Paf Open Women’s Beach Volleyball Tournament will be attended by aspiring female tandems from all over the world. The tournament will create an excellent opportunity for athletes to showcase their skills in front of the international audience, in order to catch the limelight.
China's Chen Xue/Zhang Xi will enter the competition as the defending champions. They edged out American counterparts Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh in the final showdown of 2011 Paf Open.
Overall, the Brazilian teams have the honour to capture the most number of women’s titles in Aland, Finland. China comes second on the list, while United States holds the third spot. Brazil’s Juliana Felisberta Silva and Larissa Franca have three gold medals to their tally. Moreover, they also finished third at Paf Open. The other pairing from Brazil that consists of Maria Antonelli and Talita Antunes has two bronze medals. Hence, Brazil stays on top of the list when it comes to the medals at the Paf Open Beach Volleyball Tournament.
Chen Xue and Zhang Xi from China also proved their potential on Finnish sand and secured three medals (1 Gold, 1 Silver, and 1 Bronze). Jia Tian/Jie Wang from China also managed to claw their way to the final showdown of the Paf Open and ended up with silver-ware.
American women Misty May-Treanor/ Kerri Walsh and Jennifer Kessy/April Ross earned two silver medals at the Paf Open. This is pretty much the whole deal about the medals that Paf Open Women’s Beach Volleyball Tournament offered to the outstanding pairs in last four years.
