Question:

Pagans: what are some "traditional-ish" Summer Solstice decorations?

The Equinoxes have their traditional fertility/harvest colors and decorations, Winter Solstice has the Yule and such... what would you suggest for some mid-summer yard decorations next year to confuse the local "Jesus is the Reason for the Season" folks? Something slightly subtle or almost secular would be great.

  1. Merry Meet!

not sure of the colours, but wish everyone a happy beltane!

maybe you can put a big sign out, have you found jesus?  Try looking Behind the curtains

  2. A sun dial.  I know someone who put one near their front porch and it stands there permanently.  Its made of stone and about 3 feet in diameter.  Really cool and it works to tell time by the sun's shadow.

  3. Oaks, oaks are very important, oak switches are often weaved into wreaths and decorated with summer flowers and hung in doorways. for Alban Heruin, the oak was one of the most important parts of the celebration. Streamers, or even a false fight between two people, one wearing an oak wreath and the other holly.

Bonfires, fires in general are very important to this part of the year. It's believed that crops will grow to the height of the fires.

Green and pink are both very important colours in this time. Also, little fairy circles, or setting out for the little shee is considered important while the larger sidhe are generally given offerings of mead, teas, honey, and pork.

The summer solstice is mostly meant to be a party of fertility and happiness, have fun with it.

  4. I've always liked the goat heads on stakes decoration.  Just make sure that you change them out every once and awhile, otherwise they start to smell bad.

  5. I would put out some ears of corn similar to what

some people do in October... corn has always been

    very symbolic of midsummer.

  6. Is there any possibility, that you can find a life? Maybe some decorations for it also.

  7. Greetings!

No reason to "confuse" anyone. Pagans do what they feel SHOULD be done, and they do follow Traditional guidelines-

Something secular, something blue, something old, something new.

    How about a Tree?

    That says it all!

    /!\
