Pai Hsiao Ma treads into Women’s Singles quarter-final round of 2012 Macau Open – Badminton News
Women’s Singles expert Pai Hsiao Ma remained invincible in the second round of Kumpoo Macau Open Badminton Grand Prix Gold and gained access to the quarter-finals on November 29, 2012.
This pre quarter-final tussle saw her overpowering the compatriot shuttler Chang Ya Lan with an impressive result of 21-17 and 21-12.
Though, this encounter concluded in just two games but still World Number 19 Hsiao Ma had to put an extra effort to cast out her lower ranked competitor.
The Taipei player established a strong grip over the game by clinching very first match point and then never lost focus all the way to final moments.
In the opening game, she put her challenger under huge pressure by pocketing five consecutive points in no time.
She did not show any mercy in the next couple of rallies and confined Ya Lan in the rear court with her power packed smashes.
Hsiao Ma, who holds fifth spot in the tournament ranking, relished full benefits of her experience and kept the opposing shuttler under control until mid-game break.
She finished first half of the set with an indomitable figure of 11 and then doubled the lead with few consecutive points in third quarter of the set.
Though, Ya Lan made a swift progress after 16-10 and narrowed the gap with 15-17 margin but it was not enough to counter-balance the situation.
She kept trailing behind until game point situation and surrendered after reading 17-21 score on the board.
The second set was also played in similar manner as Hsiao Ma ruled the court in most part of game and transformed her 1-0 lead into a straight-set victory.
She employed unusual tactics and kept a low profile in the beginning of this crucial game. However, she displayed her real panache after 6-6 and smacked her opponent down with a convincing figure of 11-6.
Later part of the game was filled with some sensation as Ya Lan put an honest effort to oust the opponent but Hsiao Ma proved a tough nut to crack.
She maintained a distinctive lead of nine points and finished this set with scoreboard flashing 21-12 margin.
