Pai Hsiao Ma treads into pre quarter-final round of 2013 New Zealand Badminton Open
Women’s Singles expert Pai Hsiao Ma had a perfect start in SKYCITY New Zealand Badminton Open as she cleared first hurdle and earned a spot in the pre quarter-finals on April 11, 2013.
She was up against relatively a lower ranked shuttler Rawinda Prajongjai and their meeting prolonged to 40 minutes before ending with final figures of     21-12 and 25-23.
The Taipei campaigner displayed superior badminton skills in both segments of the showdown and sealed a splendid straight-set victory.
On the other hand, Rawinda had to bid adieu despite of putting an honest effort throughout the tussle.
Hsiao Ma laid foundation of her victory in opening game of the match and served the notice of his dominance also in the second set.
The battle heated up when she launched a series of power packed strokes and pushed her rival on the back foot. She did not show mercy in next couple of rallies and doubled her total in no time.
Though, the opposing shuttler made every effort to rise from the dust but she failed to hit the mark due to a below par performance.
She kept on making fatal mistakes and allowed her competitor to pile up an unassailable total of 11.
Hsiao Ma, who holds top spot in the tournament ranking, did not squander this opportunity and strengthened her grip over game.
She played flawless badminton in latter part of the game and swept the table with an impressive score of 21-12.
The following game was also played in similar manner as the higher ranked Taipei campaigner showed consistency in her performance.
This time Hsiao Ma employed interesting tactics as she was bit cautious in the beginning but then she showed aggressiveness in second half of the set.
Initially, Rawinda looked in a fighting position as she remained close to her challenger on points table.
However, few back-to-back mistakes in latter part of the game hit her hard and Hsiao Ma managed to tip the scale in her favour.
She registered a tight yet decisive margin of 25-23 and setup her next clash with Vicki Copeland in pre quarter-finals of New Zealand Badminton Open.
