Question:

Paid for local fights?

I am a twenty nine year old former wrestler/boxer who just started mma training. My goal is to fight in a local event around my thirtieth bday (February). Although this has nothing to do with why I began this path (I have a good job) - I am curious if fighters get paid for these local events. I've been to a few (have a friend who is a regionally successful fighter) but this isn't the type of question I want to ask him.

  1. If it is a professional bout then yes you will get paid, but in all likely hood it will be very little. A lot of the smaller organization require you to do at least a couple of amateur fights so they can check you out and decide if they think you are up to a professional fight. You will have to check with your head trainer/ coach to find out about that.

  2. No, you typically don't get paid anything for local fights.  Occasionally they may give you a per diem for travel if it's greater than 50 or 100 miles, but rare.

  3. If your goal is going pro, make sure the mma training hall you are at is one that is active in the competitive world.  Some schools don't compete out side their own school, or schools(if its a franchise.)  You can ask the head instructor at your place, he will set you straight.   If he can't help, it might be time to find a new gym.

    hope this helps

  4. Where do you live? I need a sparring partner, I don't mind taking punishment either

  5. You only get paid if its a professional fight. The amatuer bouts are mainly for experience. Some times they will have both at local event. There is different rules for each depending on the state your in.

  6. I think you just answered your own question. If you fight a pro you will get your *** handed to you.
